The Best Country Under the Sun is a documentary about memory, identity, and the bonds that endure over time. A story about those who left and those who welcomed them; about the loss of a homeland and the creation of a new one. A story that connects two shores of the Atlantic and asks how much of Ireland still beats in the Argentine heart, and how much of Argentina remains in Irish memory.

They were twelve young men who, in 1844, made a decision that would change the course of their lives and forge a bond between Ireland and Argentina that endures to this day. Their departure inspired their schoolmaster, Walter McCormack, to write an epic ballad about their journey to Argentina.
“The Irish Ghosts” is a traditional music band created by Martín Amuy-Walsh in 2018, when he and a group of friends, musicians and actors of Irish and Scottish descent decided to get together to play the music their ancestors loved to listen and sing. Over time, the band expanded to its current lineup: Martín Amuy-Walsh on banjo and singer, Angel Montecucco Walsh on Washboard, Banjo and Singer, Diego Mac Allister on Percussion, Juan Patricio Wade on Guitar and Singer, Stevie Cartledge Wallace on Bagpipes, whistle and Singer, Delfina Sueiro Hardy, whistle and flute, Fernando Marelli, at bass, Fernando Andrés Pérez, violin, Mariano Bea on Bodhran and Spoons and Mariano Suiffet on Bandoneón. They are managed by Matias Norris Dillon.
The name “The Irish Ghosts” comes from the idea of being the band of musicians on a ship that sank in 1840, sailing from Liverpool to Buenos Aires, leaving only its ghosts to reach Argentina. Musically, they put their own spin on traditional Irish songs.
